Screen protectors and dummy units suggest Apple’s forthcoming iPhone Ultra could place both selfie cameras in the same corner of the device, rather than splitting them between a centered outer cutout and an inner top-left position.
Dummy units previously pointed to a top-centered cutout for the outer display selfie camera and a top-left placement for the inner display camera, an asymmetrical arrangement that would be atypical for Apple. New screen protectors that surfaced online show a cutout on the top-right corner of the outer display when the device is closed, and indicate the inner and outer selfie cameras may occupy the same corner of the same half, with one lens facing outward and one facing inward.
iPhone Ultra corner placement could reduce internal spread
Taken together, the two leaks could imply a single front-facing camera zone in one corner, potentially implemented as two slightly offset lenses. Such an arrangement would let Apple confine cutouts and camera modules to a single region within a 4.5mm thick chassis, which could be advantageous in a foldable design where internal space is limited.
Evidence is provisional
Accessory makers typically work from leaked CAD files of varying accuracy, so a pair of screen protectors cannot be treated as definitive proof of the final design. This interpretation also assumes the dummy models had one camera placement correct (the top-left inner selfie camera) and the other incorrect (the centered outer camera). Even so, a side-by-side internal placement in one corner remains a plausible configuration based on the available leaks.
We should have a definitive answer soon: the iPhone Ultra is expected to be unveiled next month, and is reported to feature a 5.5-inch cover display, a 7.8-inch inner display, the A20 Pro chip, Touch ID integrated into the Side button instead of Face ID, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 48-megapixel dual rear camera system.
