Apple has announced iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 and plans to release the update to the public this September after months of developer and public beta testing. The company has not confirmed an exact public release date, but reports suggest the stable build could arrive shortly after Apple’s September 9 event; some reports have pointed to September 14, though that date is not official.
iOS 27 release date and beta testing
Apple has already distributed multiple beta versions of iOS 27 during its testing cycle. Beta 8 was released at the end of August as part of final testing ahead of the public rollout. Apple has said the update is coming this fall and the stable release is expected in September, but the company has not provided a firm day.
Compatible iPhones
Apple’s official iOS 27 compatibility list extends back to the iPhone 11 series. Supported models include the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series. The iPhone Air, iPhone 17e and iPhone SE (2nd generation) are also listed as supported.
Not every iPhone on that list will receive every iOS 27 feature: reports indicate certain Apple Intelligence capabilities are limited to newer hardware, specifically models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 16 series and later devices.
Features and regional or hardware limits
iOS 27 places a stronger emphasis on Apple Intelligence and a more capable Siri, aimed at handling more complex tasks. Apple also announced improvements across its apps and services, including Apple Wallet features powered by Apple Intelligence.
A notable addition is an enhanced iPhone Handoff that could let one phone number be used across two iPhones, with one handset acting as the primary device and the other as a companion; carrier support will be required for that functionality. Apple has not confirmed every feature or its availability in all markets, and some Apple Intelligence features may require newer iPhone hardware or be unavailable in certain countries or languages. The company has also warned that local regulations could delay availability of some capabilities.
