Why Did Apple Raise Prices for Apple TV and HomePod?

Apple has increased the prices of its Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini products globally, despite these devices not receiving updates for several years. In the United States, the Apple TV (Wi-Fi) now costs $199, up from $129, while the Apple TV (Wi-Fi + Ethernet) has risen from $149 to $249. The HomePod’s price has climbed from $299 to $349, and the HomePod mini has increased from $99 to $129. Apple attributes these hikes to a memory chip shortage, which has led to soaring costs for RAM and SSD storage. The company expressed that it has never experienced such rapid component price increases.

These price adjustments occur as consumers await new models of the Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini, expected to launch later this year with enhanced Siri capabilities. The current models, ranging from three to six years old, include the HomePod mini from October 2020, the Apple TV from October 2022, and the HomePod from January 2023. The Apple TV 4K features an A15 Bionic chip, while the HomePod mini and the second-generation HomePod use the S5 and S7 chips, respectively.

Rumors suggest the upcoming Apple TV might incorporate the A17 Pro chip, supporting Apple Intelligence, and include the N1 chip for advanced connectivity features. Although no significant design changes are anticipated, there may be updates to the Siri Remote. The HomePod mini could see improvements with a newer chip, enhanced sound quality, and possibly a new color option. Additionally, Apple is rumored to be launching a new smart home hub soon.
