Apple has announced a price hike for several products, including the MacBook Neo, which now starts at $699 in the U.S. The increase is attributed to a memory chip shortage that has driven up the costs of RAM and SSD storage, essential components of the MacBook Neo. Companies like OpenAI and Meta are buying large quantities of memory chips for AI servers, causing a supply-demand imbalance. Apple noted that such a rapid increase in component prices is unprecedented. Originally launched at $599 with 256GB of storage, the MacBook Neo now costs $100 more. The higher-end model with 512GB storage and a Touch ID button has also seen a $100 increase, now priced at $799. Educational discounts have been adjusted as well, with the MacBook Neo starting at $599 for college students, up from $499. Price changes vary internationally; in Canada, the MacBook Neo now starts at $949, up from $799. Despite the increase, the MacBook Neo, powered by an A18 Pro chip and 8GB RAM, remains Apple’s most affordable laptop, positioned below the MacBook Air, which starts at $1,299.
