Why Did Apple Raise Prices on 14 Products Today?

Apple has increased the prices of several products, including all Macs, iPads, Apple TV, HomePod, HomePod mini, and Vision Pro. The price hikes range from $30 for the HomePod mini to $1,300 for the Mac Studio. Notably, the prices for iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods remain unchanged for now. The company attributes these increases to a memory chip shortage driven by the expansion of AI data centers, which has caused a significant surge in the cost of RAM and SSD storage chips. Apple has stated that while it has previously absorbed these costs, the current situation necessitates passing some of them onto consumers. The company is actively seeking solutions to mitigate these costs in the future. Other tech giants like Microsoft, Samsung, Lenovo, HP, and Dell have also raised prices due to the same issue. The memory chip supplier Micron anticipates the shortage to persist until 2027, suggesting that elevated prices may continue for some time.
