Samsung has ended software support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 after five years on the market, meaning both foldables are no longer eligible for updates as of August 2026.
Samsung launched the eighth generation of its foldables in late July 2026 and put those devices on retail shelves in early August. The Fold 3 and Flip 3 completed five years on the market that same month, which triggers the end of their update eligibility under Samsung’s previous support policy.
The two phones originally shipped with Android 11 and One UI 3 and received Android 15 as their final major operating system upgrade in 2025. Since that update, both devices were limited to security updates, and those security updates have now ended.
Before Samsung extended its flagship update commitment to seven years in 2024, Galaxy devices typically received a maximum of five years of software support.
What this means for Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners
Owners who want continued protection against the latest vulnerabilities should consider upgrading. Flip 3 users can move to the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners seeking a newer model with a familiar form factor will be interested in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a different form factor with a wider, shorter cover and foldable displays. Neither Z Fold 8 model supports the S Pen.
All three Galaxy Z8 devices ship with One UI 9 (Android 17) and receive seven years of software updates, or support until 2034. They also introduce features not available on Android 15 and older, including AI capabilities such as My FanCam, Now Nudge, Now Brief, and Creative Studio.
