Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone during its product event later today, reportedly named the iPhone Duo, which will compete directly with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Reporter Mark Gurman, who has a strong track record covering unreleased Apple products, is the source of the Duo name.
iPhone Duo: design, cameras and displays
The device is said to be introduced by Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus. Reports describe a short-and-wide folding aspect ratio similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and note a dual rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor and a 48MP ultrawide lens, plus a 12MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Rumored CAD renders have circulated on X.
Performance, software and stylus support
The foldable is expected to run on Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chip and to support side-by-side app multitasking and iPad-style multi-pane layouts. It will reportedly support the Apple Pencil; if accurate, that could put the Galaxy Z Fold 8 on the backfoot. Samsung offered S Pen support from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 through the Galaxy Z Fold 6 but dropped stylus support with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to achieve a substantially thinner design.
Pricing and storage
Pricing for the iPhone Duo’s base 256GB model is expected to start at $2,000 in the US, about $100 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Higher-capacity variants will cost more, with the 2TB model reportedly reaching as high as $3,000.
