Apple’s new iPhone Duo does not include Face ID. Instead, Touch ID is integrated into the Duo’s side button and can authenticate whether the device is open or closed. Like regular iPhones, owners who have an Apple Watch can choose to have the watch unlock their iPhone Duo without pressing any button. Pre-orders for iPhone Duo begin at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23.
iPhone Duo authentication options
Apple has brought over one of the Mac’s best authentication features to its foldable iPhone by building Touch ID into the side button. That side-button Touch ID handles unlocking when the device is either folded shut or open. Separately, the Apple Watch unlock option mirrors existing iPhone behaviour, allowing users with a paired watch to unlock the handset without interacting with the phone itself.
The pre-order and availability dates remain unchanged: pre-orders start at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16, and the iPhone Duo will be available beginning Friday, October 23.
