Edge Light May Come to iPhone, Code in iOS 27 RC Suggests

Apple’s Edge Light feature, introduced in macOS 26.2 for Macs with M1 chips or newer, appears to be headed to the iPhone — at least the iPhone Duo — based on code found in the iOS 27 Release Candidate by researcher pdfu. The researcher also reports the color temperature control is not fully implemented, suggesting the feature remains in development.

Edge Light on iPhone: what the code shows

pdfu, who has been examining Apple’s recent software updates, posted that the iOS 27 Release Candidate contains evidence of Edge Light being gated behind a device subtype that points to the iPhone Duo. The researcher’s tweet noting the finding was posted on September 10, 2026. According to pdfu, the color temperature setting in the code is not yet fully implemented.

How Edge Light works and availability questions

On macOS, Edge Light illuminates the borders of the screen to evenly light a user’s face in low-light conditions, acting as a virtual ring light; settings on Mac let users adjust the width of the white line around the screen and a color temperature slider to change how warm or cool the produced light appears. A video of the feature running on a simulated iPhone suggests the iPhone version would work similarly and include the same brightness and color temperature controls. It is unclear whether Edge Light will be available on the iPhone Duo at its October 23 launch or if Apple will expand the feature to other iPhone models.

Some of pdfu’s previous Apple-related code findings have already proven accurate, giving the researcher a track record of correct predictions so far.
