I replaced my Samsung earbuds with the Razer Hammerhead V3 X Hyperspeed after repeated fit problems and a failing right bud. I had owned three generations of Samsung’s AirPods-style models; while their color choices were strong, the fit was lacking and they kept falling out during workouts and on planes. When the right earbud died for the third time, I switched to the Hammerhead V3 X Hyperspeed.
The Razer Hammerhead V3 X arrives in a single all-black matte finish with a small RGB strip on the case hinge. The earbuds follow an AirPods-like design with a short tail, and they are larger than the older Samsung buds I was used to.
Razer Hammerhead V3 X Hyperspeed: fit and comfort
The Hammerhead V3 X include multiple ear tip sizes to adjust the in-ear fit, but the smallest tip was still slightly too big for my ears. They don’t fall out as easily as my Samsung buds did; movement is usually required to dislodge them, so a three-hour flight seated posed no fit issues. However, they can still come loose during more active motion.
Connectivity and the Hyperspeed dongle
The Hammerhead V3 X Hyperspeed are built for both travel and gaming. You can use standard Bluetooth or the included 2.4 GHz wireless receiver dongle for Razer’s Hyperspeed connection to PC, console, or phone. The dongle stores inside the case for safekeeping; the reviewer found it less intrusive than past iterations and noted a noticeable quality gain when using it. That said, the earbuds cannot be turned up as loud as some other headphones, which was a drawback on long flights when trying to block cabin noise.
App support, Synapse and platform limits
On a phone, the Razer audio app lets you toggle noise canceling and ambient modes; the difference is immediately audible. Razer Synapse on PC offers the same options, but Mac users don’t get that customization due to compatibility restrictions. The reviewer cited the need to rely on Razer’s software as a major flaw, noting that without the app—and with fewer features than the Samsung Wearables app—the experience is constrained. Synapse in particular was described as getting in the way despite solid hardware.
Durability, case features and everyday use
The earbuds are water-resistant, suitable for workouts and light rain. They’re large enough not to get lost in a bag, though the reviewer sometimes preferred a third-party case to clip them on. The HyperSpeed Case doubles as a charging case and a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver; you can also plug the case into a device with the included USB-C to USB-A cable to play audio while charging. Razer’s SmartSwitch allows switching between 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth. That said, Bluetooth audio was crisp enough that the reviewer didn’t always feel the need to use Hyperspeed.
The matte black case scuffs easily and showed marks after two plane trips, but these were removed with an alcohol wipe. Despite small cosmetic wear and the reliance on Razer software, the reviewer concluded these issues weren’t enough to dismiss the product.
