You can stop One UI from halting background apps and games by changing an app’s battery management profile to Unrestricted. That setting lets the app keep running in the background even when minimized — useful for online games that otherwise disconnect when you switch apps. Note that pinning an app to Recents does not prevent it from being halted; pinning only keeps the app visible in the Recents list when you press Clear all.
How One UI’s app battery profiles work
Modern One UI provides three battery management profiles for each app. Unrestricted allows the app to use battery in the background without restrictions. Optimized adjusts based on your usage of the app and is usually the default. Restricted limits battery usage while the app runs in the background.
How to keep an app running in the background
To prevent One UI from stopping an app when it is minimized, change its battery profile to Unrestricted: Open Settings > Apps > select the desired app > Battery > Unrestricted. When set to Unrestricted, the app will continue running in the background uninterrupted, similar to a desktop computer.
Battery trade-off — be careful
By preventing One UI/Android from halting background processes, you must manage background apps yourself. If you leave a power-hungry app running in Recents while using the phone normally, the battery may drop severely. Make sure to close such apps manually from Recents when you’re done using them.
