Veteran Ventures Capital on Sept. 15, 2026 said it led a $2.5 million Series Seed Preferred financing in Radian Forge to accelerate the Virginia-based company’s large-format additive manufacturing capacity for U.S. naval, maritime and defense applications. The financing was made through VVC’s Fund II, with additional participation from the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC) and Radian Forge’s existing investors.
Radian Forge’s WAAM capabilities
Headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, adjacent to some of the nation’s largest naval shipbuilding and repair facilities, Radian Forge produces large-scale, precision-grade metal components for naval, maritime and defense applications using large-format Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). The process produces large, complex components with material properties between castings and forgings, while reducing production lead times by 40–80% and enabling each WAAM robot to operate with a single operator.
“The United States cannot sustain naval power or rebuild its fleets without a responsive manufacturing base capable of producing critical components at the speed of the mission,” said Joshua Weed, General Partner at Veteran Ventures Capital, who led the investment and will join Radian Forge’s Board of Directors. “Radian Forge is building the domestic manufacturing capacity needed to help close that gap.”
Funding, expansion and partnerships
The investment comes as the United States works to rapidly expand shipbuilding and repair capacity, strengthen domestic supply chains and address production constraints across the maritime industrial base.
“America has spent decades accepting manufacturing timelines that no longer match the urgency of the mission. We don’t accept them. Radian Forge is building the capacity to put critical components into the hands of our customers in weeks, not months. This investment allows us to move faster and scale that capability. Veteran Ventures understands that this isn’t just a manufacturing problem—it’s a readiness problem—and that’s exactly the kind of partner we want beside us,” said Jeff Yeager, CEO of Radian Forge and former U.S. Marine.
In February 2026, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced that Radian Forge would invest $10.5 million to expand its Portsmouth operations, creating 53 new jobs, with the Commonwealth approving a $265,000 Opportunity Fund grant. VIPC’s latest direct equity investment expands and strengthens the Commonwealth’s commitment.
The financing is intended to help Radian Forge scale large-format additive manufacturing for the Naval industrial base and increase domestic production capacity for critical maritime and defense components.
