Samsung Electronics has begun production early at its Taylor, Texas fabrication plant under a $16.5 billion deal to produce Tesla’s next-generation AI chips, moving up from an earlier November timeline.

Samsung conducted an equipment move-in ceremony at the Taylor site in April, and the tape-out was completed in July, a handover of chip design to wafer fabrication. Prototype production and verification typically follow the tape-out.
Korean media report that Samsung has pulled the mass production schedule forward to keep pace with surging AI chip orders. Its foundry lines at the main Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek factories in South Korea are already running at full capacity, creating pressure to accelerate output at Taylor to meet current demand for 2 to 4nm chipmaking.
Full effective utilization of the Taylor fab could be achieved by year’s end.
