Samsung’s upcoming high-end lineup—the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra—could use LPDDR5X RAM in at least some variants rather than the LPDDR6 initially expected across the range.
Samsung is reportedly conducting quality tests on Micron’s LPDDR5X memory, which is built on Micron’s 1γ process. Micron submitted these samples to Samsung in the second half of 2025, a move that had led to speculation the chips might debut in the Galaxy S26 series, but they did not.
LPDDR5X testing and Micron’s 1γ process
The LPDDR5X modules under evaluation are described as Micron’s equivalent to the 1c DRAM generation from Samsung and SK Hynix. The ongoing quality testing by Samsung suggests at least some Galaxy S27 models could ship with Micron’s LPDDR5X memory chips rather than the previously expected LPDDR6.
