The Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 will be Samsung’s second-generation smart ring, succeeding the original Galaxy Ring launched in 2024. It is expected to track fitness and health metrics and could bring improved tracking accuracy as well as NFC-based payments.
Design of the Galaxy Ring 2
The Galaxy Ring 2 will likely retain a design very similar to the original, with limited changes due to the ring form factor and the priority of comfort. Samsung could make the ring thinner. It could feature a Grade 5 Titanium exterior with a concave design to protect the paint from daily wear, and the inner part housing sensors and the charging contact could be covered with a protective epoxy resin layer. The ring could carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (up to 100 meters according to the ISO22810 standard).
Software and features
The Galaxy Ring 2 could offer the same core tracking capabilities as the original Galaxy Ring, including calories burned, heart rate, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), sleep (duration, stages and quality), steps and workouts, with the ability to automatically detect select workouts. Improvements may focus on tracking accuracy. The ring could also provide an Energy Score derived from metrics such as previous night’s activity level, sleep, sleeping heart rate and sleeping heart rate variability, and may factor in average sleep time, sleep time consistency, and sleep latency and stages over a seven-day rolling period.
Hardware specifications
The device will have an accelerator, gyro sensor, an optical heart rate monitor and a skin temperature sensor. Similar to the first Galaxy Ring, it could include 8MB of internal storage for storing health and fitness data and for the Zephyr RTOS. The ring will likely feature Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC connectivity: Bluetooth for pairing with a smartphone (Android or iPhone) and NFC potentially for mobile payments via Samsung Wallet.
Battery life and charging
The Galaxy Ring 2 could offer roughly week-long battery life on a single charge, while its charging case may provide 1.5 to 2 additional top-ups, extending total usage to about 2.5 to 3 weeks when used with the case. The charging case would use a USB Type-C port. Reported battery life varies by size: the smallest sizes could offer up to 6 days, and the larger sizes up to seven days on a single charge. A full charge could take up to 90 minutes.
Pricing and availability
Samsung could launch the Galaxy Ring 2 sometime in 2027, possibly at the same $400 price as the original Galaxy Ring. It could be offered in three colors: Titanium Black, Titanium Gold and Titanium Silver.
