One UI’s built-in equalizer can improve the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s tinny, shallow-sounding speakers without third-party apps or hardware changes. The equalizer is flat by default but offers presets and a custom option that can add perceived depth and clarity.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 equalizer setup
To access the equalizer, open Settings and go to Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects > Equalizer. There are six presets in total, including the default ‘Balanced’, and you can also tap ‘Custom’ to create your own profile. Make sure to compare presets while a song or video is playing in the background so you can hear the differences in real time.
Preset choices and results
In testing, the ‘Dynamic’ preset produced the most positive improvement for the Fold 8’s onboard speakers, though results can vary with the content and listener preference. By contrast, the ‘Clear’ and ‘Treble boost’ presets can make the speakers sound worse for some users, so they are generally not recommended—though trying them costs nothing since sound perception is subjective.
The phone stores separate equalizer profiles for onboard speakers and for headphones automatically, so you can set different presets for each and not have to retweak settings when switching output devices. This makes the equalizer a “set it and forget it” option for improving the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s audio without additional software or hardware.
