Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9 at its “Surprise and Shine” event. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will go live at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions and additional availability in 28 other countries and regions beginning Friday, October 30. How to prepare for iPhone Duo pre-orders
Shortly before pre-orders go live, it is likely you will be able to set up a “Get Ready” feature in the Apple Store app. That feature allows you to prepare a purchase by selecting your preferred model, confirming carrier status, adding accessories, choosing an AppleCare+ plan, and saving payment methods so you can complete the purchase with a single tap when pre-orders begin.
Check your Apple Account details now: confirm your payment method has not expired, that your billing address matches your card, and that your shipping address is where you want the iPhone Duo sent.
Get a trade-in quote in advance. Obtaining a trade-in valuation on your current iPhone adds screens to the checkout process, so do it before pre-orders open. After a trade-in estimate is generated, Apple must receive your old device within 14 days (15 days in Canada) to ensure you receive the estimated value. That 14- or 15-day countdown only begins after you receive the iPhone Duo, not before.
If you financed your current phone through the old iPhone Upgrade Program, check your status and replacement financing options now. Apple discontinued the old program in the U.S. in July 2026. Do not change your configuration selection at checkout unless necessary. Each change to your basket likely re-queries Apple’s inventory; if your saved specification is available, take it through to payment. This includes color choice — last-minute changes increase the risk that availability will change before you complete checkout.
Pickup, walk-ins and availability on launch day
Choose in-store pickup if it is offered. Pickup inventory is likely allocated separately from delivery stock, so a store slot can still be available after delivery estimates have slipped. Opting for in-store pickup also removes ambiguity about your estimated delivery window.
Launch-day walk-in stock is a genuine alternative: Apple could hold back some inventory for in-store purchases on launch morning, and brick-and-mortar stocks are allocated per store rather than nationally. Apple’s pickup availability checker updates through the morning and is likely to be more efficient and reliable than calling the store. That said, do not assume you’ll be able to walk into a store and pick up an iPhone Ultra.
