Gallery Fold opens in Amsterdam from September 18 to September 20 at Prinsengracht 526, presenting works by ten international AI artists in a pop-up gallery Samsung created in partnership with ACE. The event aims to show what emerges when artists add AI and other technologies to their creative tool belts rather than to settle whether AI-generated work should be considered art.
Gallery Fold and the question of AI art
Samsung’s campaign in the Netherlands brings together ten international AI artists, each demonstrating how AI can be used as a creative tool. The gallery does not attempt to answer whether AI-made content qualifies as art; instead, it presents outcomes of artist-led processes that incorporate AI and technology.
Alongside the exhibitions, Gallery Fold hosts the Fold Pond, an interactive installation centred on the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. At the Fold Pond, visitors can see how Samsung’s foldable phones are presented as interactive creative partners and can try those devices to create their own AI-powered imagery inside the gallery.
While Samsung stops short of resolving the debate over AI and authorship, the Gallery Fold exhibition is designed to prompt visitors to consider where the line lies between human creativity and machine assistance — and whether using AI is a legitimate tool or a detriment to the creative process.
