Apple released iOS 27.0.1 today, the first update to iOS 27 that appeared two weeks ago, addressing Face ID issues affecting iPhone 18 Pro models.
The update can be downloaded over the air via Settings > General > Software Update. Apple also issued iPadOS 27.0.1 and visionOS 27.0.1, and it published iOS and iPadOS 26.7.1 updates for devices that have not moved to iOS and iPadOS 27.
What’s fixed in iOS 27.0.1
According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 27.0.1 provides bug fixes for iPhone, including:
– iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate.
– A color artifact may appear on photos captured at 2x under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.
– Opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously may cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive.
Users had reported that Face ID authentication could fail for tasks such as unlocking a locked app, that devices could freeze and then reboot, that setup could display a “Face ID is Not Available” message, and that the Require Attention for Face ID setting could behave incorrectly. The iPhone 18 Pro models include an infrared camera under the display for the first time, but it is unclear whether the hardware is responsible. Apple said last week it would be able to address the Face ID bugs with a software update.
Although several fixes target iPhone 18 Pro models, iOS 27.0.1 is available to all iPhones that can run iOS 27.
