Posts on social media indicate certain authentication scenarios—such as using Face ID to unlock a locked app—do not always work on affected devices. There have also been reports of iPhone 18 Pro models freezing and rebooting when Face ID is activated. Forum members have reported receiving a “Face ID is Not Available Message” notification during the authentication setup process, and the “Require Attention for Face ID” setting is said to be not working in some cases.
For the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple moved the Face ID infrared camera under the display for the first time, but it is unclear whether that hardware change caused the issues. Either way, installing iOS 27.0.1 should address the reported Face ID problems.
