As of October 2026, the Galaxy Z TriFold has the biggest battery of any Samsung foldable phone: a 5,600mAh pack, 12% larger than the 5,000mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Galaxy Z TriFold: biggest battery, limited availability
Samsung reached that 5,600mAh capacity by using a three-cell battery system, with one cell placed in each of the phone’s three sections. The TriFold, however, was sold only in limited quantities in a handful of markets and has since been discontinued. Even the final US restock sold out, and Samsung confirmed no more units would be available.
What you can actually buy
With the TriFold effectively out of the picture for most buyers, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra leads Samsung’s widely available foldables with a 5,000mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 follows with a 4,800mAh battery—200mAh less than the Ultra—offering a shorter, wider phone with a landscape-oriented inner display. Both the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra support 45W wired charging, the fastest among Samsung’s widely available foldables apart from the TriFold. The compact Galaxy Z Flip 8 carries a 4,300mAh battery and supports 25W charging.
How Samsung’s Fold batteries have evolved
Samsung’s Fold battery capacities did not steadily increase generation to generation. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 had a 4,500mAh battery, which was reduced to 4,400mAh with the Fold 3. That 4,400mAh capacity was then retained for the Fold 4, Fold 5, Fold 6, the Fold Special Edition, and the Fold 7. The Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra broke that run by offering larger batteries than even the Fold 2, ending a lengthy period without a capacity upgrade in Samsung’s regular Fold lineup.
Battery capacity alone does not determine real-world endurance: display size, processor efficiency, network conditions and individual usage all affect how long a phone lasts on a charge. For example, the TriFold’s unfolded main display measures about 10 inches, which requires more power when in use.
