Alexa Tablet lineup challenges Samsung Galaxy Tabs in US

Amazon has launched three new Alexa-branded tablets that directly challenge Samsung’s dominance in the US Android tablet market. The company retired the Fire brand for this lineup and shipped devices that run a Google-certified version of Android 16, include the Google Play Store, and will receive four years of software updates.

All three models—Alexa Tablet 8, Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 12 Pro—feature Alexa+ support for smart home control, web queries and everyday tasks. This version of Alexa is powered by large language models (LLMs), improving natural-language understanding and contextual memory; it is similar to the new Bixby, ChatGPT, and Gemini. Two of the new tablets are positioned against Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy Tab models.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro targets the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+. It is built around a 12-inch LCD with 2.8K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio, with an optional “nanomatte” anti-reflection coating. Audio is delivered through a quad-speaker system with Dolby Atmos. The tablet is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor, offers 8GB RAM with 128GB storage or a 16GB RAM with 256GB storage variant, and has a 13MP rear camera plus an 8MP front camera, both capable of 1080p video.

Battery capacity is 9,000mAh with up to 27W fast charging. Connectivity and extras include Wi‑Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (up to 5Gbps) Type‑C port with DisplayPort video-out support, and a fingerprint reader. Amazon is offering official keyboard cover and stylus accessories for the 12 Pro. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is sold without ads and is priced at $500 for the 128GB model and $680 for the 256GB model.

Alexa Tablet 11

The Alexa Tablet 11 is pitched against the Galaxy Tab S10 FE. It has an 11-inch IPS LCD with 2.8K resolution, up to 500 nits brightness and a 90Hz refresh rate, plus two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. The tablet uses a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor and is offered with 8GB of RAM; one described configuration has 128GB of storage. Camera hardware includes 8MP front and rear sensors capable of 1080p video at 30fps. Connectivity features include Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and a USB 2.0 Type‑C port.

The device is backed by a 6,500mAh battery with 27W fast charging, carries an IP52 rating, includes a fingerprint reader and two microphones. Pricing for the Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $330 (64GB, with ads) or $350 (64GB, without ads); the 128GB model is $380 (with ads) or $400 (without ads).

Alexa Tablet 8

The Alexa Tablet 8, starting at $230 (64GB, with ads) or $250 (64GB, without ads), competes with the Galaxy Tab A11+. It sports an 8-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution (1,340 x 800), 400 nits of brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate. The tablet uses the MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor and is available with 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Camera equipment comprises a 5MP front-facing sensor and an 8MP rear sensor, both capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The Alexa Tablet 8 runs on a 4,600mAh battery with 18W fast charging via a USB 2.0 Type‑C port, and includes Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, stereo speakers and a single microphone.

All three new Alexa Tablet models are described as highly competitive given their specifications and price points, and mark Amazon’s shift to Google-certified Android and deeper integration of an LLM-powered Alexa experience.
