TypeSafe AI Raises $870M Series A Led by a16z at $7.5B Valuation

TypeSafe AI announced on October 9 that it has raised approximately $870 million (about ¥87 billion) in a Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), valuing the company at $7.5 billion post-money (about ¥1.2 trillion).

TypeSafe AI’s Jev: a judgment-specialized System One Model

The San Francisco–based startup is the developer of Jev, an AI model unveiled on September 15 described as the first iteration of a ‘System One Model’ that returns pre-typed judgment results rather than generating text token by token like conventional large language models. When presented with unstructured input, Jev outputs typed, probabilistic judgments with response times reported between 70 and 500 milliseconds. Pricing is set at $0.042 (approximately ¥6.6) per 1 million input tokens; output tokens are offered free of charge. The model is currently in early access.

Andreessen Horowitz was the largest investor in the round. Other participants included Sequoia Capital, multiple angel investors and existing shareholder DCVC. Martin Casado of a16z will join TypeSafe AI’s board of directors.

According to the company, roughly one-third of Fortune 500 companies are already using Jev, though specific customer names were not disclosed. TypeSafe said customers are realizing cost reductions measured in the millions of dollars in production environments. The company also reported that Jev surpassed 1 million users within days of its public release.
