Apple TV 4K Expected at Apple’s October 13 “Welcome home” Event

After nearly four years without an update, a new Apple TV 4K is expected to be announced as part of Apple’s “Welcome home” launch on Tuesday, October 13. The announcement is likely to appear first in a press release on the Apple Newsroom website, while selected reporters and content creators invited to Apple’s “Welcome home” experience in New York—beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern Time—are expected to share hands-on photos and videos of the device.

Apple TV 4K upgrades

Rumors indicate the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K could be powered by an A19 or A19 Pro chip, a change that would reportedly increase system memory to between 8GB and 12GB and enable Siri AI support on the device. The current Apple TV, announced in October 2022, uses an A15 Bionic chip and has 4GB of RAM.

The new model is also expected to include Apple’s N1 chip with support for Wi‑Fi 7, which would provide faster speeds and lower latency compared with the current Apple TV’s Wi‑Fi 6 when used with a Wi‑Fi 7 router. The N1 chip is said to support Bluetooth 6.0, versus the current model’s Bluetooth 5.0.

A leaked image of the upcoming Apple TV reportedly showed no external design changes from the current model. However, Apple’s software code references a new Siri Remote, indicating a revised remote is likely.

In June, the Apple TV 4K received a price increase amid surging memory chip costs; in the U.S. the device now starts at $199, up from $129.
