Are robots the stars of China’s AI expo?

At the World AI Conference in Shanghai, humanoid robots stole the spotlight, highlighting China’s advancements in artificial intelligence. These robots showcased their skills, from drumming to serving drinks and boxing, captivating the audience at the annual event. With participation from over 800 companies and more than 3,000 products on display, humanoid robots were the main attraction, especially one that played a drum solo to Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” China’s significant investments in robotics have led some experts to suggest that the country may have surpassed the U.S. in this field. At the Unitree booth, the G1 android impressed with its acrobatic moves, and plans for the affordable R1 humanoid robot were unveiled. Baidu also showcased advancements in “digital humans,” AI agents capable of thinking and decision-making. While the event focused on technological progress, attendees seemed more interested in the exciting applications of AI rather than its potential risks. The Chinese government continues to support the robotics sector, with AI and automation playing a crucial role in the nation’s technological future.
