Microsoft marked the 12th anniversary of the Windows Insider Program by sharing a set of special wallpapers with program members.
The images echo the Windows Bloom wallpaper that ships with Windows 11 and have been remixed by Microsoft and enthusiasts. Variants include blue, white, green, orange and purple versions, alongside several dark-theme wallpapers. A direct download link has been provided, and Insiders should also receive the images via email.
Windows Insider wallpapers and where to get them
The author said they favor the blue version, citing a personal connection to learning to use a PC on Windows 95.
Microsoft shared the following message alongside the wallpapers: “Thank you for 12 incredible years, Windows Insiders!
From exciting program changes to meetups that brought us together in the past year, you’re at the heart of it all. As a thank-you, we created new backgrounds for all Insiders inspired by 12 years of the Windows Insider Program and the latest Surface design aesthetic.”
The Windows Insider Program has been around for 12 years and has shifted in structure over that time. The author and several colleagues say they have been Insiders since the program’s launch. Over the years the program has ranged from major Windows features not being tested with Insiders to instances where feedback directly shaped Windows development.
Microsoft refreshed the Windows Insider Program earlier this year; since that refresh there have been more Insider builds per week and significant upgrades tested in those builds.
Windows Insider meetups returned this year, with events in Seattle; New York City (USA); Hyderabad (India); Taipei (Taiwan); San Francisco (USA); and London (UK).
The author noted that Microsoft has shown the positive impact of listening to feedback through recent changes to Xbox, adding that sometimes addressing the top community concerns is what’s needed.
The wallpapers are a small gesture of thanks to Insiders. The author warns that ignored Insiders can disengage from the program, which ultimately hurts Windows users in the long run.
