Argentine biotech startup Giraffe Bio has raised $6.4 million in a seed round led by Orion Industrial Ventures, with participation from BHP Ventures, Twynam, AIR Capital and Baruch Future Ventures.
Founded in 2024 by Alejandro Buffo Sempé and Juan Pablo Fernández, Giraffe Bio operates in Chile and was the first Latin American startup selected for Breakthrough Energy’s Fellows program.
Giraffe Bio’s technology and plans
Giraffe Bio uses artificial intelligence and biotechnology to develop biochemical reagents that help mining companies recover more copper from ore. The company said it will use the funds to increase production, conduct industrial trials, expand research and grow its team.
