Ahold Delhaize confirmed on Monday, October 12 that a cybersecurity breach within its network has left the websites and mobile apps for Stop & Shop and Hannaford unavailable as the company works to investigate and mitigate the issue.
The parent company said it took precautionary measures, including taking some systems offline, to help protect its infrastructure while teams assess the situation. The full extent of the incident remains unclear and no timeline has been provided for restoring all affected services.
Ahold Delhaize response and investigation
Ahold Delhaize said its teams are working to assess and mitigate the security issue. The company said on Tuesday there was no indication that customer data had been stolen, and that the investigation is ongoing.
Ahold Delhaize also confirmed that websites for other chains it owns, including Giant Food and Food Lion, were affected by the disruptions.
Impact on customers and stores
Stop & Shop and Hannaford customers who tried to access weekly specials, place online orders, or use mobile apps encountered maintenance messages and service outages. Hannaford’s website, mobile app and Hannaford To Go pickup and delivery services were among those affected.
Both grocers said customers can still visit local stores. Stop & Shop confirmed its grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations remain open and operating as normal. Customers whose online orders cannot be fulfilled will receive refunds, according to company website notices.
The disruption is a potential inconvenience for shoppers who rely on online ordering and pickup, particularly in areas served by Stop & Shop and Hannaford. Updates will depend on the ongoing investigation and the company’s remediation efforts.
