Should Samsung reconsider canceling the Galaxy S26 Plus?

Samsung’s decision to potentially cancel the Galaxy S26 Plus has sparked debate. While some view the move as logical due to historically lackluster sales of the Galaxy S Plus series and Apple’s anticipated shift to an ultra-thin Air model, others remain skeptical. Recent sales figures for the Galaxy S25 series, including the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, have fueled these doubts. The S25 series has achieved significant success, with over 20 million units sold, raising questions about the wisdom of altering a seemingly successful lineup.

The S25 Plus, although less popular than the standard S25 and the high-end S25 Ultra, still managed to sell 3.85 million units by June, marking a 7.5% increase over its predecessor. This suggests that the S25 Plus, despite being the “middle child,” has performed reasonably well. Meanwhile, the S25 and S25 Ultra have also shown solid progress compared to previous models.

Samsung is rumored to be planning a significant lineup revision, potentially replacing the S25 Plus with a slim S26 Edge model and introducing a Pro variant to the base S26. The S26 Edge is expected to address battery life issues seen in earlier models. While these changes could be risky, they might also yield positive results if executed well.

The S25 Edge, released in limited numbers, sold 650,000 units shortly after its debut, with expectations of reaching 1.5 million units. Although promising, these figures fall short of the S25 Plus’s performance. The success of the upcoming S26 Edge in surpassing the combined sales of the S25 Edge and S25 Plus remains uncertain.

Overall, the growth of the basic S25 model compared to its predecessor has outpaced that of the S25 Ultra, which might prompt Samsung to reconsider its reorganization plans for the S26 series.
