CrestLab, the company behind the AI-driven anime production platform ANICRA, has successfully completed a seed round of funding, although the raised amount remains undisclosed. The funding attracted investments from East Ventures, NTT Docomo, Cork, along with various venture capital firms and individual investors. Originating from NTT Docomo’s internal entrepreneurship initiative, CrestLab was founded by CEO Yuta Bando and CTO Wataru Wada. ANICRA is a cloud-based platform designed to streamline anime production by automating tasks like video and finishing processes using AI, achieving a 70% reduction in man-hours during trials with multiple studios. The platform utilizes a unique AI model that preserves the distinctive line work of cel-look animation while automating coloring, and includes features that meet industry demands. As the anime industry faces challenges such as talent shortages and declining quality due to outsourcing, CrestLab aims to enhance production efficiency and quality, allowing creators to focus on more creative aspects of their work.
