Residents are advised to ensure that valuables are not visible from the street, as Google Street View vehicles are currently capturing images in the UK, including areas in the north west such as Chester, Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Kendal, and Blackburn. Security expert Shahzad Ali suggests homeowners consider having their properties blurred on Google Maps to reduce the risk of being targeted. He also recommends installing security cameras and alarm systems, using subtle deterrents like “beware of the dog” signs, and being cautious with social media posts about travel plans. Creating the illusion of an occupied home, such as using timers for lights and having a neighbor collect mail, can also deter burglars. Google Street View provides 360-degree views of streets worldwide, and its imagery is regularly updated by Google teams.
