Baidu’s Apollo Go robotaxi service has successfully completed 20,000 kilometers of safe driving in Hong Kong, as the city broadens its driverless vehicle trial zones to boost the sector. This milestone was reached through tests in Northern Lantau and Tung Chung since obtaining the city’s first autonomous vehicle pilot license last November. Baidu views the positive outcomes in Hong Kong as a significant reference point for introducing its self-driving technology to other right-hand-drive markets globally. Hong Kong’s chief executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, along with Transport Department officials, recently engaged with Baidu’s CEO, Robin Li Yanhong, to discuss artificial intelligence development and the integration of autonomous driving technology in the city.
