Why hasn’t the Columbus cybersecurity report been released yet?

Columbus is still waiting for the release of a cybersecurity breach report over a year after the incident was first disclosed. Despite promises from Mayor Andrew Ginther that the report would be available by early 2025, it remains unpublished. The breach, which occurred after an employee downloaded a malicious file, allowed hackers access to the city’s internal systems. Details about the breach and the employee involved remain scarce. Mayor Ginther has cited ongoing legal proceedings as the reason for the delay, emphasizing the need to protect taxpayers and future investments. The breach potentially affected thousands, including residents and city employees, but no disciplinary actions or arrests have been announced. In response, Columbus has invested significantly in cybersecurity, including a $23 million investment in Zero Trust Networks. Meanwhile, the city faces several civil lawsuits alleging inadequate protection of personal data.
