Samsung has traditionally relied on its own semiconductor division for memory chips in its Galaxy devices, only occasionally turning to third-party suppliers. Recently, however, Micron has become a more significant part of Samsung’s supply chain. Reports suggest that Samsung will use Micron DRAM exclusively for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, sidelining its own Device Solutions division. This marks a shift in Samsung’s strategy, with Micron playing an increasingly crucial role. While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will continue to use DRAM chips from Device Solutions, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, powered by the Exynos 2500 chipset, will rely entirely on Micron’s LPDDR5X chips. This decision is reportedly due to concerns about heat management, as both the Exynos 2500 and Samsung’s LPDDR5X chips are known to generate significant heat. By using Micron’s DRAM, Samsung aims to ensure better stability for the device. This move follows a similar pattern observed with the Galaxy S25 series, where Micron gained a significant share due to heat issues with Samsung’s own chips.
