A critical security alert has been issued for Google Chrome users in India, urging them to update their browsers immediately. The Computer Emergency Response Team, India (CERT-In), has identified several high-risk vulnerabilities affecting Chrome on Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. These vulnerabilities could allow hackers to run arbitrary code, steal sensitive information, or cause browser crashes, posing a significant threat to user privacy and system security.
Chrome versions at risk include those prior to 140.0.7339.207/.208 on Windows and macOS, and prior to 140.0.7339.207 on Linux. The vulnerabilities stem from issues like side-channel information leakage and integer overflow in Chrome’s V8 engine. Attackers could exploit these flaws by luring users to malicious websites, potentially leading to severe consequences.
CERT-In strongly advises all users, businesses, and organizations to update Chrome to the latest version without delay. Given Chrome’s widespread use, millions could be affected if these vulnerabilities remain unpatched. To enhance security, users should also practice safe browsing by avoiding suspicious links and regularly updating their operating systems and essential applications. Google has already released the necessary patches and is closely monitoring the situation.
