The National Cyber Emergency Response Team has raised an alarm over a rise in phishing attacks using SMS, WhatsApp messages, and phone calls to extract personal and financial data from unsuspecting individuals. Citizens are urged to be vigilant and refrain from engaging with suspicious communications. Users are advised against clicking on unknown links or sharing sensitive information like bank details, national ID numbers, or one-time passwords. It is crucial to access accounts only through verified websites and official channels to safeguard personal information. Phishing attempts often entice victims with fake promises of rewards or urgent bank notifications. The public is encouraged to report and block fraudulent numbers and to take swift action, such as changing passwords, if they suspect any breach. Enabling two-factor authentication on mobile and email accounts is recommended for enhanced security. As part of a government campaign, citizens are urged to share awareness videos to help identify and prevent online scams. The National CERT emphasizes that no legitimate organization will request passwords or OTPs via phone or text, and staying informed and cautious is the best defense against these growing cyber threats.
