Global leaders in artificial intelligence, OpenAI and Perplexity AI, are considering expanding into Tajikistan, focusing on localization, infrastructure, and establishing a regional presence in the country’s growing tech ecosystem. The Tajik Ministry of Industry and New Technologies is in talks with these companies to collaborate on establishing a Regional AI Center in Dushanbe, localizing technology, and participating in an International AI Conference in 2025. OpenAI is evaluating Tajikistan as a potential hub for data centers powered by the country’s green hydropower resources. Meanwhile, Perplexity AI is planning to support local startups and open a regional office in the new Area AI technopark in Dushanbe. These discussions are part of Tajikistan’s national strategy to attract global AI players, with several agreements already signed with companies from the U.S. and UAE for research labs in the capital.
