Could Samsung’s Exynos 2800 chip revolutionize AI capabilities on Galaxy phones?

Major smartphone brands are in a race to transform phones into advanced AI assistants capable of more than just answering prompts. Samsung is aligning with this trend, as evidenced by a new leak suggesting a potential hardware upgrade for its Galaxy phones. This upgrade could enhance on-device AI processing, offering faster responses, improved privacy, and reduced reliance on cloud services.

The rumored enhancement involves a Multi Stacked FOWLP upgrade that combines Samsung’s vertical memory stacking with fan-out wafer-level packaging. This integration is expected to bring memory closer to the main chip, facilitating quicker data transfer and improving AI workload management. Such advancements could significantly enhance features like image editing, live translation, and assistant-style actions, making them more efficient without cloud dependency.

The upgrade might debut with the Exynos 2800 chip, although it could also appear in the Exynos 2900. With the Galaxy S27 series anticipated to utilize the Exynos 2700, the Galaxy S28 or S29 series might showcase this high-bandwidth memory configuration.

However, this progression could mean that older Galaxy phones might miss out on new features. While some tools may require enhanced hardware for optimal performance, others might be reserved for newer models to distinguish them from recent flagships. This strategy was hinted at with the One UI 8.5 update, where certain features were exclusive to newer models.

As Samsung continues to innovate, the Galaxy AI could become a compelling reason for users to upgrade their devices sooner than expected, despite long-term software support maintaining security and usability on older models.
