Cyberattack Attempt Confirmed on Defence Headquarters’ Official X Account

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed an attempted cyberattack on its official X account and warned the public against relying on any suspicious content published from the handle, Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, said in a statement on Saturday.

DHQ response to cyberattack attempt

Uba said the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with technical measures activated to secure the account and block further unauthorised access. Efforts were continuing to regain full control of the platform, the statement added.

The DHQ advised members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any unauthorised or misleading posts that might appear on the account while the recovery process continues. Military authorities said the incident would not affect their commitment to providing Nigerians with accurate and timely information on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Defence Headquarters also urged Nigerians seeking official updates to use its verified accounts on other platforms, including Facebook under the name Defence Headquarters Nigeria, Instagram at @defenceheadquarters and its WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria.
