Did Duolingo misuse iPhone’s Dynamic Island for ads?

The language learning app Duolingo has reportedly utilized the iPhone’s Live Activity feature to showcase ads on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, contravening Apple’s design guidelines. Users on Reddit have noted that the app displayed an advertisement for a “Super offer,” Duolingo’s paid subscription service. Apple’s guidelines explicitly state that Live Activity should not be used for ads or promotions, as it is meant to provide updates on ongoing events and tasks only. Non-compliance with these guidelines can result in apps being removed from the App Store. Although attempts to replicate the ad were unsuccessful, it is speculated that Duolingo may have ceased this practice following user feedback.
