Galaxy A23 5G: Samsung ends software updates for the A-series phone

Samsung has ended software support for the Galaxy A23 5G: the phone will no longer receive any software updates.

Galaxy A23 5G support ends

The Galaxy A23 5G joins the LTE variant in losing update support. The LTE model stopped getting updates in April 2026 after it had reached retail shelves a few months before the 5G version; the 5G model has now been taken off Samsung’s update schedule as well.

The A23 5G was released in 2022 running Android 12 (One UI 4.0). It received upgrades to Android 13 and Android 14, after which Samsung stopped providing further major OS upgrades and limited the device to security updates. Following its final major OS upgrade, the phone received quarterly security updates for two years.

How the A23 5G compares to newer A-series models

Within the Galaxy A2x lineup, the A23 5G was the last model with a relatively short promise for major OS upgrades. The Galaxy A24 shipped with a commitment to four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Support is even longer on newer models: Samsung promises six years of OS and security updates for the Galaxy A26 and Galaxy A27.

If you are still using a Galaxy A23 5G and want ongoing software support, this is a prompt to consider upgrading. The Galaxy A27, for example, offers several improvements over the A23 5G, including an Infinity-O AMOLED display rather than an LCD, Android 16 and One UI 8.5 out of the box, a newer, more efficient Snapdragon chip, and a slimmer body (7.8mm versus the A23 5G’s 8.4mm frame).
