A new report says the Galaxy S27 Pro will use a 12MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, a downgrade from earlier expectations and a clear difference from the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s telephoto setup.
The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are both reported to share a 200MP primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide sensor, but their telephoto modules would differ: the Ultra is expected to feature a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, while the Pro would reportedly settle for a 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom.
Galaxy S27 Pro telephoto downgrade
Earlier rumors had suggested the Galaxy S27 Pro might include a 50MP telephoto sensor with 3x or 3.5x optical zoom, but the latest report contradicts those claims. The lower-resolution telephoto on the Pro would create a notable gap in zoom performance between the Pro and Ultra models.
The downgrade is said to be intended to account for high memory chip prices and to help keep retail prices of the Galaxy S27 series stable.
Base S27 and S27+ camera continuity
The same report indicates the base Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will carry a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. If accurate, this would mean no camera hardware upgrades for the base and Plus models in 2027, marking six consecutive years of using essentially the same camera setup.
These details position the Galaxy S27 Pro as a middle option between the Plus and Ultra models, inheriting the Ultra’s 200MP main sensor but differing notably in telephoto capabilities.
