Galaxy Tab S12 to get seven OS upgrades and seven years of updates

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra will go on sale in select markets on October 7, ship with Android 17 and One UI 9.0, and will receive seven OS upgrades and seven years of security patches under Samsung’s current premium-device firmware policy.

Samsung says its firmware policy for the premium Tab series has not changed in two years. In 2024 the company increased the policy from four OS upgrades and five years of security patches to seven OS upgrades and seven years of security releases.

The Galaxy Tab S10 series was the first premium tablet to benefit from that 2024 policy change; the Galaxy Tab S12 duo now receives the same treatment.

Galaxy Tab S12 update policy

Most Samsung Galaxy phones, including 2026 models such as the Galaxy S26 and the latest Z8 foldables, follow the same seven-year firmware upgrade policy. There are exceptions: flagship phones typically get faster, wider access to One UI public and beta releases, and tablets can skip minor One UI updates in some cases. For example, the Galaxy Tab S11 shipped with One UI 8.0, skipped One UI 8.1, and eventually received One UI 8.5.

In theory, the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra should receive One UI updates until around 2033–2034, depending on how promptly Samsung releases the final major firmware update for the series.
