Samsung said the cushioning structure is intended to improve durability and protect the display by reducing the impact of interference or pressure between internal display components. To achieve this protection, the corner areas are built with extra clearance; that clearance can cause slight movement or a modest sink when specific parts of the screen are pressed. The company added that this behavior does not affect the performance of the screen or the phone.

Samsung described the indentation as a normal design choice and said users can continue to use their Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with confidence.
