Has Bioactivx secured $1.43M in seed funding led by Cocoon Capital?

Singapore-based startup Bioactivx has successfully raised $1.43 million in a seed funding round spearheaded by Cocoon Capital, alongside global strategic investors. The funds will expedite the clinical and regulatory processes for Bioactivx’s flagship innovation, the Bioactiv® Matrix. This synthetic, bio-inspired skin substitute is designed to enhance healing, reduce scarring, and eliminate infection risks. The investment will also support the development of new products like Bioactiv® Foam and Bioactiv® Cellulose, while scaling up production in Singapore to meet ISO 13485 standards.

Burn injuries affect over 11 million people annually, with more than 180,000 resulting in death, according to the World Health Organization. Traditional treatments often involve animal-derived materials, which pose infection risks and face cultural and ethical challenges. Bioactivx offers a groundbreaking synthetic platform that mimics natural healing processes without animal materials, making it suitable for diverse global environments, including areas with cultural restrictions on animal-derived products.

In pre-clinical trials, Bioactiv® Matrix achieved full wound closure within seven days and showed no inflammation by day 15, surpassing traditional collagen-based products. Initial human trials indicated faster recovery and cleaner healing compared to current standard treatments. Dr. Peili Teo, Co-founder and Director for Technology at Bioactivx, emphasized the company’s mission to innovate safe and scalable regenerative implants. Zongxi Sia from Cocoon Capital highlighted the potential of Bioactivx’s platform to revolutionize wound care with safer, more effective, and culturally inclusive solutions.
