In the first half of the year, China experienced a significant surge in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence, reaching 515 million users. This rapid growth, primarily driven by domestic AI models, resulted in an adoption rate of 36.5 percent. The expansion is supported by China’s advanced infrastructure and government initiatives, positioning the country as a leader in AI utilization. The demographic of AI users is predominantly well-educated individuals under the age of 40, making up 74.6 percent of the user base. As part of its “AI Plus” strategy, China is promoting the integration of AI technologies across society and the economy. While American AI models like those from OpenAI and Google DeepMind are restricted in China, domestic alternatives such as DeepSeek, Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen, and ByteDance’s Doubao have gained significant traction among users.
