Has Dallas’ MCatalysis Secured Funding to Advance Microwave Catalysis Technology?

Dallas-based company MCatalysis Inc., a deep tech firm established earlier this year, has successfully closed a seed funding round led by HL Energy Ventures. This investment aims to accelerate the development and scaling of their innovative microwave catalysis technology, which they have exclusively licensed from Oxford University Innovation. MCatalysis is committed to producing low-cost, clean synthetic fuels and chemicals by transforming waste carbon resources, including agricultural residues and plastic waste, into valuable products. Founder and CEO Michael Irwin, who is also affiliated with HL Energy Advisors, views this funding and licensing agreement as pivotal for advancing a circular economy and democratizing the petrochemical supply chain. Irwin, a serial entrepreneur, has also been involved in other ventures like DirectH2 and ElectroFueled. MCatalysis’ technology, originating from research at the University of Oxford, combines industrial microwave processes with unique catalysts to enhance production efficiency for sustainable fuels and chemicals. HL Energy Ventures CEO Victor Liu praised MCatalysis for its potential to achieve substantial commercial success and positive environmental impact. The exclusive licensing agreement grants MCatalysis global rights to Oxford’s foundational intellectual property in microwave catalysis, supporting the transition of this groundbreaking technology from lab to market.
