Central One Federal Credit Union, based in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, has announced a significant cybersecurity breach affecting over 50,000 current and former members. The breach exposed sensitive personal and financial information, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses or state IDs, financial account details, and medical and health insurance information. The incident has impacted 56,923 residents of Massachusetts and 274 residents of Texas. Although the credit union has not disclosed the cause or perpetrators of the breach, the compromised data heightens the risk of identity theft, medical identity fraud, and account takeovers. Central One is in the process of notifying affected individuals by mail and advises all members to stay vigilant.
