Has Möbius Industries revolutionized urban mining with a $3.8M pre-seed round?

Möbius Industries, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has successfully secured $3.8 million in pre-seed funding to advance its pioneering work in urban mining. Led by Outlander VC, the funding round also saw contributions from several other investors, including Mana Ventures and Plug and Play. This capital injection will enable Möbius to enhance its AI-driven “de-manufacturing” facilities, which aim to transform urban waste into high-purity raw materials. The company’s innovative approach seeks to reduce U.S. reliance on imported materials by converting local waste into valuable industrial inputs such as steel, aluminum, and lithium. By employing a unique combination of robotics, AI, and materials science, Möbius’ process is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional mining methods. Founder and CEO Matthew Pierre-Louis emphasized that the company’s technology aims to establish urban mining as a key component of a sustainable, circular economy within the U.S., reducing dependency on foreign resources while minimizing environmental impact.
