Spanish startup Theker has secured a record-breaking €18 million in seed funding to advance its adaptive AI-powered robots, marking the largest seed round in Spain and a significant milestone in European robotics. Led by Kibo Ventures with contributions from Kfund’s Leadwind and fashion giant Inditex, the investment underscores the strategic value of flexible automation in industries such as retail and manufacturing. Theker’s robots, capable of adapting to unstructured environments, promise to revolutionize automation by integrating advanced vision, control systems, and large language models. This approach allows for flexible operation without the need for pre-programmed instructions, making automation as simple as launching an app. Inditex, among the company’s corporate clients, sees this as a strategic move towards a more resilient industrial future. Theker’s recent collaboration with Meta AI and ServiceNow introduced a novel robotics control framework, InCoRo, which enables real-time feedback and adaptation, distinguishing it from traditional systems. The company’s Robotics-as-a-Service model further lowers adoption barriers by offering technology on a subscription basis. This funding round not only highlights Theker’s innovative potential but also marks a turning point for Spain’s tech ecosystem, traditionally dominated by fintech and mobility. With ambitions to position Barcelona as a global robotics hub, Theker plans to use the funds to scale manufacturing, expand its team, and grow internationally.
